Hello ...

Where do you live?

What experience do you have with 4x4 vehicles?

Do you want to go to a country and hire a 4x4?

How many would be travelling - just you, your partner or friends?

France is a good place to start, if you are in the UK.

Ive done it 3 times, 2x in my Terracan and 1x in a Volvo estate. 4wd is not necessary but It helps if your car or van is front wheel drive, as some of the hills and mountainous areas can be steep. Just take the usual camping kit and few odds and spares.

Just make sure your Insurance, MOT, recent service, tyres, and Driving License are ok. The 2nd time I when to France we went up near the French alps. And for this we did need 4wd and in one spot were there was 4 foot snow drifts, a shovel and snow chains were needed.

If you are local to the UK I also recommend doing an Island weekend. Guernsey and Jersey Islands in a weekend is quite doable for just driving. Neither are very big islands and have a choice of camp sites, b&B's and open areas to camp. Lots of WWI-II sites to see if you have more time to spend looking.

I still have the receipt for the ferry trip. - £45. Friday night departure UK to Guernsey. Saturday evening departure Guernsey to Jersey. Monday Morning departure Jersey to UK. Condor Ferries.
I had enough time to drive around the islands, camp and have a quick look at several locations. I am planning to go back next year for a longer period.

TJ

Keep promising myself a litte excursion to the Channel Islands. Note they're not called "îles de La Manche". Laughing

Like nosing around WWII sites, so this is definitely on the agenda ... one day!
