Hello to all,
Several months ago I purchased a rather nice 1989. 3.5ltr V8. 110 Land Rover.
My grand plan is to keep her as standard and untouched as possible and take her on the road !. Cool

The landy has done some serious off-roading as both chassis and engine bay are caked in mud, a Safari snorkel has also been fitted.

I have been a Land Rover devotee for years, and have had numerous adventures with an old Series III, which I later sold to buy a rare Series IIa RAF Ambulance. I sold that to buy the V8.

You simply can't beat the sound of a Rover V8 engine !. Wink

Next August I will be taking part in the Caucasian Challenge, as I need more driving experience on foreign roads.

I have a long list of things to do, and will take pictures/write updates as I get her ready. The first thing I have to do is tackle the sagging head lining.

Ed

Hi, I have estimated around 22 to 25mpg.

At the moment, she is loaded with junk (ie. jobs which need to be done), this weekend I plan to take down the lining and position a solar panel on the roof (not looking forward to the drilling though). I love electrics and playing with the soldering iron !. bawling

I plan to fix a 5w solar panel onto the roof, carefully lay the cable along the head lining, down one side and into the rear load space and into a switch box. I have a spare 12v car battery which will be used to power a Magicool box, and cb radio. I built the same circuit a year ago, and it worked perfectly in the Series IIa Ambulance. Smile

Rear door hinges still okay? Of what I remember about Defenders, the spare wheel can take its toll.

The rear hinges are fine at the moment, the rear door has taken a real hard pounding at some point. I never noticed it until my rover loving mechanic pointed out the lovely concave shape. Either something big slammed into, or the previous owner reversed into...

I am it's second owner from new, the chassis is fine, no problems detected during the mot thankfully.

However one thing which is driving me mad is the guttering, when it rains the water very nicely runs from the guttering across to the door, and down the rubber seal, forming a nice pool inside. No

I am toying with the idea of drilling a couple of big holes in the guttering a couple of inches back, to ensure most of the rainfall misses the rubber seal. Rolling Eyes

Why not? Bush mechanics (even in East London) and Land Rovers go hand in hand. Smile
