Thats quite cheap.
They look great but i suppose the only thing that springs to mind is are they made out of cheap plastics?
If they are could they warp or break easily? Could UV rays make the plastic flake? over the months years?
The prices seem great. I paid £180 for my TJM Airtec Snorkel, inc p&p from australia.

Also could someone tell me the purpose of the item "Snorkel Head Ciclonic 85mm". Is this like a pre-cleaner aif filter, either as a replacement or aditional?

A quick look says it is a rip off of Safari Snorkel

Not only the design but the logo colours and letter styling

Quote :

Our snorkels are made from LLDPE polyethylene as the best Australian brand for maximum strength and excellent quality levels.

Really??

LLDPE Now what is that? LLDPE sounds posh but stands for Linear low density polyethylene. However that is NOT what Safari snorkels are made of.

From Safari Snorkel site

Quote :

Safari Snorkel Systems are manufactured to the highest standards in durable, UV stable, cross linked polyethylene material and deliver a continuous and cooler supply of air for maximum engine performance. Each system includes quality fixtures and fittings that deliver superior sealing, OEM levels of presentation and long-term durability.

Note Safari snorkels are NOT made from LLDPE!

Quote :

Unfortunately, during 2009, a veritable flood of low cost snorkels began appearing on the market. Whilst they appear to be exact copies of Safari snorkels, there are a number of issues that must be exposed in order to educate the consumer who may have never experienced poor quality copy products manufactured from inferior materials in China.

Read more HER and HERE

If the price is too good to be true then there is normally a good reason why.

Would I risk my engine on a cheap inferior snorkel. A replacement engine could cost £k's

Somehow I think I will stick with the genuine Safari snorkels and would recommend everyone else avoids cheap imitations like the plague.

Just my opinion of course

I agree.

I suppose it would be ok if it was a little pay and play mud truck. But like ^^^^^ said.

i had a cheap one from
M&M in the midlands for my disco V8,,, that was a copy with a fixed head made of an inferior plastic when it arrived it was split along the seam it had been crushed in the post,so i stuck the seam together with araldite seemed to work ok,,then next outing it got crushed against a mud wall ,,result crushed again split seam again,,so took it of and glued it back together,,,next outing the top got caught under a branch and it just snapped off........ mad

so the upshot is,,,its a piece of crap and as soon as im finished with it i will get a safari snorkel..... thumbsup

these snorkels would be ok if you only did overlanding, and diddnt knock them around like i do,,,,, stupid

Thats some epic photos.

Did it take long to glue back together? Or was it a leave it in a vice over night job?

Besides brittle plastic etc one of the other problems with snorkels is sealing them so they are water tight.

Cheap ones are more likely to be problematical with making them water tight. Water into engine means engine goes bang! Overlanding it is probably even more important to preserve your engine then at your local pay and play site.

i found it was hard to seal as it never came with clips so had to use a lot of good quality silicon to seal it,,,at the moment i have a piece of 90 deg 63mm rubber hose on the top to stop the rain going down,,,,but the car is being modified when i have time so will be fitting a new snorkel,,,, thumbsup

Have a look at the TJM stuff over the Safari. ive had both, and both are great. The Safari has the ability to swivel the head for dust conditions wehre as the SOME TJM Airtec snorkels don't. IMO the TJM is stronger. 1x peice cast. Have a Look. OEC International can help you out if you want one. Just mention Terracan Jas told you about em. thumbsup
