Hi all

I've just been given the opportunity to travel with friends to morocco but due to work and children's holidays can only travel in august, plan is first few days around 31st July 1st august in Marrakech then heading towards atlas mountains and anti-atlas area, sorry cant be more specific yet( it was planned out on a beer drip mat last night)
big question is how hot will it be in those areas I've noticed that all the big tour operators avoid morocco at this time, we will be travelling in a non air conditioned vehicle and camping using ground tents, plus any other issues to be aware of in morocco at this time?

cheers in advance

You will find it unbearably hot in August. High's towards 38C plus. As much as I like the heat I wouldn't go in July/ August.

Yep, it will be hot. Any of the lowland areas along the coast or inland will get pretty hot. Up in the mountains at altitude it will be better, but still pretty warm. Some people do okay in the heat...others not so much. I usually sleep out under the stars when it is warm as tents can get pretty stifling. I would try to keep moving during the hottest parts of the day...with lots of ventilation and make sure you find some place at altitude to spend the nights.

Hi there

thanks for the replies, we actually did the trip last august, hottest night was whilst camping in what would best be described as a car park in Tata where we had to pitch our tent on the concrete floor, we've never been so great full for a thunder storm and the accompanying rain

cheers kevin

Once did a charity run in Morocco late September, and that was hot enough. In fact one of our crew was a tad overweight, but not excessively - about 16 stone I'd guess - but boy did he suffer. Wearing a baseball cap, he was sweating so profusely that the capillary effect on the peak of his cap meant it dripped of the leading edge every second! Never seen that before or since, and I include the 100% humidity of Southeast Asia!

He only lasted a week into our 3-week trip, jumped on a plane in Fez straight back to wet 'n' welcoming Wales. Who could blame him?

Good luck Kevin!
