Did you have checked, what alternative Products are around?

I did try to list your options of getting clean drink water abroad:

http://www.4x4tripping.com/2013/07/portable-wasserfilter-systeme-fur-die.html

I did too write an article recently, how you can build your own water filter, with active coal, UV-C and so on.

http://www.4x4tripping.com/2014/08/wasserfilter-im-eigenbau.html

Depending from where you plan to travel and how long, you should consider too a cheap filter device like the life straw - just for emergency - and to buy drink water - or beer cheers1

I think I just ordered mine from amazon. Can't recall exactly as I did look at alot of websites and the price can vary quite a bit. Am overseas at the moment but happy to check when I get back on the weekend.

Yep, there are lots of alternatives but none as flexible as the Lifesaver in my book. It isn't bolted into your truck, so you can take it to the source when you can't drive close. It is rugged and can be bashed around without damage. One of the finest micron filters available. Finally for me, idiot proof operation which helps after a few days in the boonies...
