Yoda just replied via a text message. Seems the gearbox and transfer box have gone, so big problems! He reckons it is the LT77, which is the same as in the Discovery Series I, so he stands half a chance of finding one. Just had a look on ebay and the only one of any not is - wait for it - in Cupar near Fife, Scotland. Marvelous!!

Given that Sasha (Yoda's 110) has a massive Izuzu engine in it, I would pass on another LT77 and track down a Santana LT85 while in Spain. A much stronger gearbox that should be able to handle the power of the Izuzu motor. But Yoda is the man on the ground and he is pretty resourceful, so sure he will sort something out.

Just seen Yodas message above.

How far did you get before the gearbox gave up ? (Where about's in Spain are you)

I'm sure there will be someone on here who knows of a LR friendly garage in Spain that can heip.

Pity it didn't go in Morocco we could have got it done where the guys sorted Johns clutch !

I see your point James, but will need to find measurements, to see if it will fit, to line up with engine and propshaft,   been on the Defender2 forum and found out that their is a Land Rover person about 4 miles away, and Dilys's brother is sure he knows where it is, so will be going for a drive soon to see if he can help.
Worse case will have to find someone to trailer sasha to Calais, then my son can meet me in dover and get us home. clinking teacups

Fingers crossed!

You're spot on Tembo, the Santana LT85 is far stronger, that's why the off-road racers all fit them. Over here they cost an arm and two legs, so if Yoda can find one over there, it'll be a bit of a result.

Great new Kevin hope you get it sorted, you have had a few challenges on the trip but hopefully the local guys can sort it out and you can return home under you're own steam.

Great picture James ! I'm picking the wife up from Le Havre tomorrow and were spending a couple of days in Honfluer for our 31st wedding anniversary, she should be bringing my laptop so I can sort out pictures and videos and get them to you. thumbsup

As you and tembo says the santana box LT85 is better may see about finding one, even if we don´t fit it in Spain can take it home to do, give me a project over the winter, as well as the G WAC, should keep me and our son busy.

Glad to hear that you are managing to get Sasha sorted one way or another. The idea of the LT85 really does make a lot of sense and would look into it in detail especially from a long term point of view.
Hope all goes well.clinking teacups

Hi Kevin
just realized your situation Sad Sad -----------I tried to find Land Rover Brotherhood---but they seem to have gone-------did a search for Land Rover clubs in Spain---there seem to be some, so, can you do a search there, it's well worth a try.------We have a friend heavily into Landys but he is in Portugal😢 he used to mechanic for a French Dakar competitor, (not much use to you though😢 )
We will keep watching here to see how you are getting on.
You feel sooo far from home when something like this happens:(
Good luck with your search for a Santana box--I have no idea what mods are required to fit it ??
