Hi all still in France not sure if I will be back for Toms show still undecided as I'm a third of the way to Morocco not sure if it's financially a good idea travelling back and then down again a week or so later.
This does give me a problem as I haven't bought my maps with me so unsure if I can get replacements here.
Is there a possibility some one can shadow my route and fill in if I don't make it back, I know it's an imposition but depending on what happens in the next 6 weeks it may not be an option for me to return to the UK but to meet you all at the RV in Spain.
Please let me know your thoughts guys

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think having five sets of maps is already too many. As long as you can remember roughly what you planned you can use my set for your leg if you can't get your copies. Or...we just take a compass bearing from Tendrara and go cross country....

If you don't come back for Tom's show we will link up at the campsite outside Algeciras. Maybe if you get there a day early you could scout out the ferry port and some of the timings/prices for ferries on the 15th. Would be good to get across in the morning.

Enjoy France! Bon chance!

Booked my ferries today. I am departing Portsmouth on 11 October, into Santander on 12th. Catching return ferry on 04 November. Barring the unforeseen that should give me enough time to make the RV by late afternoon on 14 October.

Well, if you get to the campsite in Tarifa by the 12th, maybe checkout ferry timings and prices. I won't make the campsite until later afternoon on the 14th and we want to be on a ferry the next morning. If you can that should avoid some confusion when we all roll up.

The plan is now Algeciras-Cueta.

Crossing either the afternoon of the 14th or morning of the 15th. Yoda will be planning the leg from Cueta to Taourirt.

Enjoy the drive down...wish I had the time to do the same.

And to All:  Final planning session at the Adventure Overland Show...probably near or in the beer tent.
We have planed a route from Cueta to Taourirt, hopefully I have not taking any dead end roads, the place to  avoid is Ketama on the N2 it is the main growing  area for cannabis.

I have been doing a lot of research on line and books, it seems the best place to land is Tanger Med from Algeciras, apparently no where to buy insurance in Cueta, you have to drive a few miles in Morocco, and sods law you my have a ding. Is it worth a chance, also people say it is easier.

A quote from the Hubb
Arriving and returning at Tanger Med is realy easy, no problems. No hustlers.
Immigration is done at the ferry before arrival in Tanger Med.
Customs is in the port itself.
There is an ATM and currency exchange in the building. There is also free wifi
If the bank is not open, the ticket offices will exchange EURO's too.
Insurance is available there.

will talk at the show, still doing some work on Sasha, almost their. clinking teacups

edit Just realized the quote above was from 2007! Embarassed  might be different know

Good research, but yes a bit out of date. Maybe ask Tuggy his thoughts.

Hi Tembo,

I'm 100% new to the forum and what a cracking place it seems to be. can’t believe it’s taken me this long to find it.

Anyway I'm off to Morocco in October, 22nd from Portsmouth, I haven’t got a return date as yet however I'm probably thinking three weeks. I have no real route planned and am heading over with another friend in a 300tdi 90, I too will be in a 90.

Just wondering if you fancied either tagging along with us for a few days or us tagging along with you. either way I will also be at the AO show over the last weekend in September and would be interested to have a look at what your planning.

Hopefully chat soon.

Cheers,

Glenn

Glenn,

Well first, welcome to the forum. I have only been on here less than a year and found it is a great place with some good people.

As for Morocco, you never know, we might cross paths somewhere. We are doing a circular route of the Rekkam plateau...a bit off the beaten path. What we did was assign each member travelling a leg to plan that covers 2-3 days. We have five vehicles and five legs. I can PM you some info about the route if you like...you never know, we might be in the same area and can join up for a bit.

But yes, definitely stop by the forum stand at the AO show and say hello. Some of us will be there and we will have our maps handy.

James

Didn't mention mate, Dilys will be nice and snug in the Event Office, probably due to the fact she'll be in a Snug!

You'll immediately know it's the Event office as it'll have a sign outside saying EVENT OFFICE. What am I talking about, waffling again, back to the subject of Morocco.

BTW, welcome to the forum Glenn. cheers

Haha, Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I will most certainly catch up with you all at the show. I haven't got my route fully planned as yet so can’t really compare routes but I'm hoping to have it all mapped out by the end of September. I do have a couple of beginner questions Laughing

Firstly what maps are you guys using?
Secondly what GPS Software do you use?

Cheers,

Glenn

Just thought I would update you on my new truck. I have done some long road miles in her and she runs great and returns good mpg.
I have started to mod the truck but its been slow work due to work commitments However, she is finally starting to take shape.
I still have lots to do but she's getting there.

Main things left to do are
Snorkel
Fit roof tent
And give her a good service

This is how she looked when I got her

And this is what she looks like now

Glenn, Collee2.8 is our map software guy for this trip, where I am a navigation luddite. I prefer map and compass...and getting lost which is often when the most fun happens. For our trip we are using old 1960's era topo maps available free online. Since we plan to avoid pavement as much as possible, and the area of Morocco we are going to is the least developed, these maps will suit. I can send you the link of where to find them if you are interested. I also have a much more modern Michelin map to compare with and see where they have paved roads or built new ones. That and a massive compass out of an old BV206 and I have my nav tools.
