hello.
hope these shots of the patrol work, the old patrol is a bit of a outhouse, but do'es the job ok.the shot of the car facing is the start of a short cut to barrage on
the mauri/senagal boarder, saves going to ROSSO and then along irrigation banks to barrage, must save about 80 km,maybe more, not sure.the cut off pants where
a inpulse buy in TISNIT,not one of my best moves. regards chris

I couldn't open it either. scratch

Why don't you follow the Idiot's Guide (referring to me BTW, not you! Wink ) I created? Top of the forum - how to post photos. I'm sure there is a more technical 'proper way' of achieving the same thing, but my system works for me ... so it can for you too.

What you have done wrong is to copy too long a web page string, try braking it down,
to a shorter string, clinking teacups

Hello Chrissue,

I'm very interested in your experiences with the Nissan Patrol. We are considering to buy this vehicle because it is a bit more affordable than a LC.

What are, in your opinion, the pros en cons of this vehicle?

Bearing in mind this was an old post by chrissue, in case they don't answer ...

I would definitely go for the Landcrusier. Patrol's are very capable, but they are also very heavy. Depends where you are travelling to I suppose. Any kind of hard surface the Patrol is very good, but in soft sand it isn't the greatest.

I have friends in Oz who swear by their Patrols, but even they would say it;s not a vehicle for worldwide travel. Again, depends where you are traveling to Antoinettelaak ... tell us more!

Honestly have to say that I would back my Patrol against any Landcruiser. I do a lot of soft sand driving and have never had any issues. Most of the vehicles that I have recovered in soft sand are Landcruisers and Toyota Hiluxs. It's all about tyre pressures and momentum. That being said, there are lighter vehicles that are better suited for sand driving but they don't have the physical size that you need in a touring vehicle. The Patrol drivelines (diffs, CV's etc) are totally bulletproof unlike the Toyota diffs and axles. It is common practice over here to take a Toyota competition rig and change all the driveline components to the Nissan parts. Without knowing exactly what you will be doing with your rig it is hard to say what would be best for you but I believe that the Nissan will not disappoint you. Good luck with your search.

Keep the shiny side up.
Gold Rig.

Been following this thread as I've always had a hankering for a Patrol.
I spent quite a while in France over the last 3 years and the French love them, hardy robust vehicles great in deep gooey mud I've no idea how they perform in soft sand though.

Talking to a fellow off roader who owns a local garage about Toyota's (he's had three) he says the old ones were built to do a job but the new ones are now built to a price and cheaper less well made components have ruined there reliability and limited what they an do in the real world without loads of modifications.
That said if I could fine an older rust free model I would have one.

hi guys,

Thanks for your quick responses! This forum isn't as "dead" as some people here say.

Since a few years it has been a dream of me to go overland to Vladivostok. There was series of shows on the belgium television about a roadtrip along the E40 to Kazachstan. That, and my love for all things former USSR, are my triggers.

If we don't make it to Vladivostok then we hope at least to reach Kyrgistan.

So: The Netherlands- Germany - Poland - Ukraïne - Russia - Kazachstan - Uzbekistan - Kyrgistan .......

I think most off the roads will be tarmac, a bit gravel and maybe a few rocky tracks.....not a lot of sand.

If you don't mind a LHD, there are loads of older rust-free Patrols in Spain.

Wiki:-

260 Series, 1986–2002
The 260 series was a Spanish-built version of the 160 (easily spotted by the rectangular headlamps) sold in Europe and was available in SWB / LWB and with L28, SD33 and RD28T engines. The SD-engined version, at least in the UK market, had a 24-volt electrical system. Nissan Ibérica-built Patrols also received a Spanish-made Perkins diesel engine (2.7 L Perkins MD27) and Spanish transmission to meet local content regulations. It also helped Nissan Ibérica amortize plant investments. The 260 Patrol later received a facelift with a new grille similar to that of the Y60 series which succeeded this generation elsewhere. Spanish production continued until 1994 for export and until 2002 for the Spanish domestic market.

Fourth generation (Y60; 1987–1997)
Built in Barcelona, Spain (1988–1998)

Fifth generation (Y61; 1997–2010)
Built in Barcelona, Spain (1998–2009)
