Its all booked..!! bounce
Im heading to Botswana for 19 days in May 2013. Im heading over to scout the area to see if it would be suitable to take my kids there in the future, plus since I will be working in India in Feb on my 40th Birthday, so I am going to run away and try and forget the fact I am 'over the hill'..... affraid
Details and updates will be posted here - http://global-adventures.webs.com/news.htm

Will be using 'Bushlore' for the 4x4 hire, who have been excellent so far with the pre-trip planning. thumbsup

I might be just 39 just now, but divorced with two kids, and spending half my life working in places like west Africa and now India, having to deal with 'logistic' issues and cultural 'differences', I feel more like 79....!!!! geek

Scott - I am sure your kids would be absolutely fine! Botswana is supposed to be incredible, and quite stable politically (always a nice change in Africa!). I haven't been yet, but it is on our list of countries to visit on our adventure ...

What are you concerns about taking your kids? scratch

kind regards

Hi Scott,
I have contacted Bushlore with a view to go May 2013 also. I don't know how to PM you so if you can PM me and let me know some details. My wife doesn't want to go and all my children are either married or in university, with the exception of our middle daughter who is of to Australia in January.

I have lived in South Africa and Zimbabwe with my son and have been to Botswana many times. You won't have any issues with security in Botswana that you wouldn't have in the UK, Europe or the U.S. Very peaceful, very quiet country. One of the great things there is that all the population lives along a belt near the S.E. border. The rest of the country is bush, sand, swamp and a great place to safari. Be prepared though...breaking down in the Kalahari is nothing to be taken lightly.

Just a BTW...my son did very well out his years growing up in Africa. Once on safari out to Matusadona in western Zimbabwe he was in a Land rover that rolled over three times. Fortunately he only broke his nose which as a 20 year-old now has a very slight bend. He did very well with the girls back in Canada as a young man telling his tales of bush encounters with lions and rolling land rovers in the deep bush.

I've rolled a Range Rover in Africa, but it doesn't seem to help me with the girls. Think I'm doing something wrong?

African Girl Child and all,
I personally have no issue with taking my kids to Africa, as I have worked extensively around West Africa, so am happy with the 'challanges'. Wink
Obviously Malaria is a concern with the kids, but I have been in Malaria infested areas for 95% of my working life, so know how to minimise the risk as best as possible.
The issue is not with me, it is with the children's mother, as she has not travelled very much, and has been raised with a very 'blinkered' view of the world, so thinks that we would all be kidnapped by rebels, sold as slaves or die in a boiling pot as sacrifices in some tribal ceremony. getting nowhere fast
Hence once I have been on my trip, I can explain her the real deal..! Not sure she will change her mind in later years, but I can but try. At least when my children are over 18, she cannot stop them exploring the world..... thumbsup
I managed to get my son to Morocco when he was 9, but Botswana might take a little more convincing with his mother!
(are you starting to see why I am divorced......?? lol! )
